John Althouse, JD*, CPA
Tax Director, Methods & Credits
John is an experienced tax director who has been helping businesses reduce their tax burden for 10 years, particularly through the use of R&D tax credits. During his career, John has driven hundreds of millions of dollars in tax savings on behalf of clients ranging from the Fortune 100 to small, family-owned enterprises. His industry experience includes government contractors, software developers, aerospace and defense, manufacturing, financial services, construction, telecom, hospitality, and agriculture. In addition to his technical expertise with R&D tax credits, John excels at identifying new opportunities and finding pragmatic solutions for clients to realize their potential tax savings.
Prior to joining Strategic Tax Planning, John was a senior manager at a Big Four CPA firm, and also served as a director at a national CPA firm. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Furman Univ.), as well as graduate degrees in Law (George Mason) and Accountancy (George Washington), and is a licensed CPA in Washington, D.C. The Virginia Beach native now lives in Northern Virginia, where he enjoys spending time with his daughter, attending sports events and concerts, and taking trips to the beach.
